EWOV Limited
Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) Limited (EWOV Limited) is a company limited by guarantee. It operates in accordance with and observes the roles, functions, powers and obligations set out in the EWOV Constitution and the EWOV Charter.
EWOV Limited was founded in August 1995 as Electricity Industry Ombudsman (Victoria) Limited (EIOV Limited) by six electricity companies—CitiPower Limited, Solaris Power Limited, Powercor Australia Limited, United Energy Limited, Eastern Energy Limited and PowerNet Victoria. The original electricity participants were later joined by other electricity, gas and water participants, and EIOV Limited became EWOV Limited.
EWOV Limited’s mission is to receive, investigate and facilitate the resolution of complaints and disputes between customers of electricity, gas and water services in Victoria and its participating companies.
To fulfil its mission, it has set up a dispute resolution scheme called the Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) (EWOV) and appointed an Ombudsman vested with authority under the Charter to receive, investigate and facilitate the resolution of complaints.
Board role and composition
The EWOV Limited Board is responsible for the business affairs and property of the company, including corporate governance, the setting of budgets, risk management, strategic planning, appointing the Ombudsman and ensuring the Ombudsman's independence.
The Board is made up of:
- four directors appointed by the Scheme Participants
- four directors appointed from groups representing customers of electricity, gas or water services or raising public interest issues relevant to electricity, gas or water services
- an independent Chairperson.

Peter is a former consumer representative of the General Insurance Code Compliance Committee and former board director of Insurance Brokers Disputes. |
