- Your existing meter will be replaced with an advanced meter sometime between now and December 2013.
- You will eventually have all your meter readings obtained remotely, instead of via a meter reader coming to your property. This should reduce the need for estimated bills.
- You will continue to receive bills from your chosen retail company.
- You may not see a start and end meter read on your bill, just a total usage figure.
- The distribution companies are allowed to pass on charges to recover costs for the advanced meter roll out. These charges are currently being approved by the regulatory body the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and will appear on your quarterly bills.
- Your rates and tariffs may be changed to reflect the time when you use electricity.
- Eventually when you move house you will be able to have the electricity disconnected and reconnected remotely.
