Wrongful disconnection payment (WDP)
Once you’ve sorted things out, you should consider whether the energy retailer acted appropriately in disconnecting your electricity or natural gas supply — whether it followed the requirements in codes and guidelines and, in particular, the law on ‘wrongful disconnection’ for electricity and natural gas.
In December 2004, the Victorian Government introduced a law requiring energy retailers to pay residential customers whose supply was disconnected wrongfully, $250 a day — for each day they were without power, or part thereof.
