    Disconnection in error
This can happen where a previous occupant’s request for energy disconnection is acted on after the new occupant has moved in, or a mistake is made in the address to be disconnected. In these cases, reconnection is made quickly once the error is realised.
A WDP may not be payable in this case — it can depend on whether the disconnecting retailer has a contract with you.
You may be able to apply for compensation though — if, say, you lost frozen goods while the power was off. The retailer may also make a payment in recognition of customer service issues.

    Health, safety or emergency
Your supply may also be disconnected in an emergency (e.g. a bushfire) — or if it would otherwise potentially endanger the health or safety of any person or the environment.

    Code breach or illegal use
If in taking supply, you’ve breached a code or regulation or used supply illegally, your supply can also be disconnected.

For more information on energy and water codes, guidelines and legislation, see our webpage on the Legal framework protecting Victorian customers.
