The Victorian LPG Retail Code is a voluntary, but enforceable, industry code. It applies to sales where LPG is delivered to a domestic customer’s site. It doesn't apply to automotive gas or to barbecue gas.
Five LPG retailers — Elgas, Kleenheat, Origin Energy, Powergas and Supagas — have voluntarily signed up to the code.
Provisions include:
- a requirement on the retailer to deliver your gas as soon as possible
- a requirement on you to give notice when you’re leaving a property and to make the gas bottle available for collection
- grounds for stopping deliveries — reminder notice and delivery warning with certain information
- that an LPG retailer isn’t required to deliver gas where it’s not commercially viable
- that the retailer, if requested, provide information about the terms and conditions of supply, safety and ownership of the cylinder
- that the customer provide proof of identity, contact details and, if applicable, the landlord’s or agent’s contact details.
