At January 2009, residential customers had 13 retailers to choose from in Victoria. Some retailers sell both electricity and natural gas — and offer dual fuel contracts — and some sell electricity only. All retailers selling electricity or natural gas in Victoria, must be EWOV scheme participants. The Essential Services Commission’s website also has a list of energy retailers. LPG customers can also change retailer. Your new retailer will remove the cylinder or cylinders belonging to the previous retailer and put its own in. It’s best if you also ring your previous retailer to say you’re changing, so it can collect its cylinders. If you have a very large cylinder, a safety requirement requires that it be completely empty before being moved — this means there are charges attached to changing your retailer, because the company has to send two trucks, one to empty the cylinder and one to move it.
