To stop phone sales, you can register on the Do Not Call Register, administered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. Go to the Do Not Call website or phone 1300 792 958. It takes 30 days for the registration to become effective.

To reduce door-to-door sales, you can get a ‘Do not knock’ sticker from the Consumer Action Law Centre Victoria (CALC) — send a stamped self-addressed envelope to Level 7, 459 Little Collins Street Melbourne 3000 or download the sticker from the CALC website. You can also get them from a range of community agencies listed on the CALC site.

To stop a particular retailer from contacting you, you can ask to be placed on its internal 'do-not-contact' list.  You can either ask it to stop marketing to you at all or in a specific way (e.g. in person, by email, by telephone or by post).  If you ask for a written confirmation of this request, the retailer has to send it to you.
