An energy or water company should use its best endeavours to provide you with a bill based on an actual reading of your meter. If it can’t get to the meter, it can issue an estimated bill — but it should try to take an actual reading at least once every 12 months. You have to make sure your meter can be reached for a reading.
If a bill is estimated, that must be clear on the bill. There are different ways of doing this — some companies put ‘E’ next to the reading on the back or provide a column named ‘meter reading’ outlining whether the bill is based on an actual or estimated reading.
An estimated bill is based on past usage — but that might not match the amount you’re actually using. After you get an estimated bill, your next bill that’s based on a meter reading may be higher or lower than you expected — depending on whether the estimate was lower or higher than your actual usage.
LPG retailers must issue a payment receipt or an invoice based on the specifics of an LPG delivery.
