These are the new types of digital meters recording electricity usage in half hour blocks. By around 2013, every Victorian electricity customer should have an interval meter. This kind of meter can be read either manually (the meter reader plugs in a probe to download the data) or remotely (the data will directly be communicated to the distribution business). It’s remotely read meters that will be rolled-out between 2009 and 2013. An advantage in this is that meter access problems can be avoided. A customer will be supplied with information which outlines how to scroll through the meter’s registers to find out about usage data. Bills based on interval meter data have a ‘usage figure’, not a ‘start and end reading’. This may make it harder for customers to check their bills.
